-
Know how much time is allotted for the stage you're
shooting
-
Generally in 3 Position Matches:
1 minute/shot in prone-------------20 minutes
2 minutes/shot for standing---------40 minutes
1.5 minutes/shot for kneeling-------30 minutes
-
Time may be greater for some outdoor ISU matches
-
Time may be less for NRA four position matches
-
Use the 3 minute preparation period to really
prepare.
Get into position
dry-fire several shots
Be ready when the command to fire comes
Don't waste "record" time doing preparations
-
Start you watch with the command to fire
If you forget, you may ask the Range Officer how much
time is left
-
Allow yourself reasonable time for sighter
shots.
No more than about 5 minutes for prone and kneeling-maybe 10 for standing
-
Divide your remaining time by two.
This is how much time you have for each 10 shot target
(outdoors, it's how much time you have for each pair of bulls)
-
You should also have a pretty good idea whether you're
on schedule,
a little early, or a little late; especially when you finish your first
target
-
If you are on schedule, just continue
-
If you are behind schedule, you must make a
deliberate effort to shoot faster
Keep a close eye on the clock
-
If you are ahead of schedule and doing well, you may
choose to continue
at that pace. If you're feeling the strain and/or not doing well, you
may choose
to rest for a few minutes
-
As a general rule, hurrying is not good for your
shooting. You need to develop
a routine that gets through the stage on time, but at a nice even pace.
