SAFETY

"Safety First, Last and Always"
Safe Gun Handling and Competition rules are the most important.  Not abiding by these rules can result in the disqualification from any match, or expulsion from any range.

FUNDAMENTALS:

  • Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction

  • Always keep finger off trigger until ready to shoot

  • Always keep gun unloaded until ready to use

ALWAYS FOLLOW THESE:

  • Be sure the gun is safe to operate

  • Know how to safely use the gun

  • Use only the correct ammunition for your gun

  • Load gun only when told to do so

  • Walk forward of firing line only when told to do so

  • Handle rifles only when told to do so

  • Know your target, and what is beyond

  • Wear eye and ear protection as appropriate

  • Never use alcohol or drugs before or while shooting

  • Store guns so they are not accessible to unauthorized people

These are only the basic rules, and they are taught thoroughly at the
Galway Junior Rifle Club Introduction Course, and must be used at all times by all junior shooters.
