Shooting Outdoors

THINGS YOU WILL NEED TO KNOW:

1. You will need everything you use to shoot indoors

2. Bug Spray-(don't get it on your palms or cheek-it will take the finish off your gun!)

3. Drinking Water-it's hot and your outdoors in heavy clothing, you will sweat-a lot! You can't shoot if you are dehydrated!

4. Ground Sheets-(plastic) Sometimes the ground is wet, and mats take forever to dry.  Sheets of plastic are available

5. Clips-You will need at least 10-12 clips.  They tend to get shot up, and windy days require more of them.

6. Eye Shade-A baseball cap or visor is needed.  You can't shoot well if the sun is in your eyes.

7. Stuff-things you keep at the club house. (EX: pens, screwdrivers)

AT A MATCH: You may also need a raincoat or tarp to throw over your equipment.  *Matches are seldom cancelled due to rain!*

WIND AXIOMS

(Axiom-a self evident truth; an established principle, scientific law, ect.)

  • The wind is the single biggest problem associated with outdoor shooting.

  • a brisk wind can easily move a .22 bullet two scoring rigs at 50 yards-sometimes three scoring rings.

  • It is better to shoot when the wind is not blowing

  • If the wind is gusting off and on, it is better to wait and fire when it is not blowing

  • if it is blowing steadily, you should click your sights into it and shoot-but don't shoot if the wind stops ( the bullet will go too far the other way)

  • Wind flags, trees, grass, ect. may be used to judge wind direction and speed.

  • A wind blowing at the target will have less effect on the bullet than a wind blowing at the gun.

  • The wind is not your personal enemy-it blows on everyone the same.
